Maven Setup steps

Apache Maven is an open source build automation tool for Java projects. Maven helps managing projects build, reporting, documentation and dependency management. It is completely based on the concept of a project object model (POM). POM(xml file) describes the software project being built, its dependencies on other external modules and components, the build order, directories, and required plugins.

We will discuss how to setup maven in our system and few basic commands/ways to use maven. And then we will use maven with other Java technology.

Maven installation steps:

  1. Download maven form apache(download link when writing this article). Download the latest release.
  2. Unzip the archive file and copy the path for maven/bin directory.

  • Control Panel → System → Advanced system settings
  • Click on the Environment Variables, and choose the PATH variable under system variable and add a semicolon “;” after the Variable Value and then paste your maven/bin directory path. press OK to confirm.
  • Open CMD and type

Mac/Linux OS:

  • Open the bash_profile file from your home directory(if you don’t have, just go ahead and create a new file with same name)

  • Add the below line in the file.

  • Save and close the editor.
